      All about HarvestHold™

      What is HarvestHold?

HarvestHold is a post-harvest product life extension solution used by growers, distributors, and retailers to extend the usable life of fruits, vegetables and flowers by an average of 50% and significantly reduce wastage in the food supply chain. HarvestHold is the most storable and portable product life extension solution available on the market, and provides growers, distributors, and retailers flexibility and ease in use, with the ability to target application for maximum efficacy.

      How is HarvestHold made?

HarvestHold is applied to typical food packaging materials and can be easily integrated into normal storage and distribution operations.

On what types of products is HarvestHold effective?

Fruits and vegetables, including pre-cut products, are significantly improved by the use of HarvestHold, as well as floral products including cut flowers and potted plants. For both climacteric produce (produce that continues to ripen post-harvest) and non-climacteric produce (produce that stops ripening post-harvest), HarvestHold has been shown to enhance freshness and quality.

      How does HarvestHold work?

HarvestHold works with a plant’s natural respiration process to optimize the pace of ripening and requires no water or other catalysts to activate. HarvestHold utilizes a superior delivery method of a trusted, industry-standard product life extension compound as the active ingredient.

How is HarvestHold applied to fruits, vegetables and flowers?

HarvestHold is simply included in the packaging of fruits, vegetables, and flowers at the time of harvest. It requires no special equipment or catalysts to activate and was designed for maximum ease of integration into existing operational processes.

When is HarvestHold applied to produce and floral products?

HarvestHold can be applied and reapplied at many points throughout the supply chain. To maximize its effectiveness, it should be initially applied at the time of harvest and packaging of produce and floral products.

      Is HarvestHold an allergen?

No, HarvestHold is not an allergen.

Is HarvestHold organic? If not, do you have an organic solution?

HarvestHold is not approved for use on produce sold as organic. At this time, Verdant Technologies does not have an organic product life extension solution, but it is in our pipeline of our targeted new product innovations.

How does HarvestHold affect the quality of the produce I consume?

HarvestHold extends the usable product life and enhances the quality of produce, providing consumers with more time to use the products they buy. By optimizing the ripening process, fruits and vegetables reach consumers with fresh-picked texture and flavor, that lasts longer.

Can I taste or smell HarvestHold on my produce?

No, HarvestHold leaves no smell or taste behind.

Does HarvestHold impact the nutritional benefits of the produce I buy?

Yes. By optimizing the ripening process, produce treated with HarvestHold reaches consumers with superior nutritional content. Untreated produce has a higher potential of being harvested too early (therefore, not ripening enough before reaching optimal nutritional content) or reaching consumers in an overripe state, both of which have inferior nutritional benefits.

      Is HarvestHold GMO?

      No, HarvestHold is not GMO.

      Is HarvestHold safe to eat?

Produce protected by HarvestHold is safe to eat. 1‑MCP doesn’t leave residues on your favorite fruit and vegetables. However, the HarvestHold film or label inside the packaging is not edible and dangerous to ingest.

      Can I wash off HarvestHold?

HarvestHold works with a plant’s natural respiration process at a cellular level, and therefore cannot be washed off. It is not a coating or film that requires removal by cleaning. Produce treated with HarvestHold is 100% safe for consumption.

Can our customers export produce treated by HarvestHold from the US and other countries?

Yes. There are no restrictions on exports of produce that have the HarvestHold application.
